Wisdom of orange peeling

Wisdom of orange peeling

Dearest readers - I spent some time studying oranges and the way they peel. My findings might not be mighty but I have found one thing, and that's that oranges peel like most other things - with some effort and tenderness.

If you plunge your fingernail into the orange too deep you could potentially damage the outside of a future orange slice going into your mouth: be mindful of your own strength. You don't want to damage something soft and sweet because you're hungry and impatient.

Sometimes it does take some prying to pull the peel away from the juicy center where all good things sit - meditating and glowing in stasis betwixt a hard-ish leathery exterior.

When you peel, peel that motherfucker.

If you peel an orange just right - you can make a tea light out of half of it. Cut a line in the center of the orange all the way around - never touching the nipples (they're sensitive). Carefully pull the peel away from the juicy interior, but maintain the shape of the half sphere. Pull the half sphere off the orange. Then finally put some oil in the bottom of the orange cup you've made and light the part that sticks up like a candle wick. bada bing bada boom orange light.

Hearts peel, people peel, love people, people orange, loving people orange peels.

I'm sitting on the edge of the world dangling my feet. I'm peeling an orange and every piece of rind that comes off with my thumb will be collected together and tossed to the wind - as a wish like a dandelion blow. Each piece uncovers more of that which I hold in my heart. My center is starting to glow. I'd tell you exactly my wishes but I'm a little superstitious. I will tell you this though. Life is better with friends in it.

If you've made it this far - I want to thank you from the bottom of my orange - 'er my heart I mean. A tip for those who are more curious about the art of orange peeling - look at what happens when you hold an orange peel in one hand and a lighter in another. Try lighting the lighter and squeezing the orange peel near it. Report back with your findings. I'm curious about what you discover.
